What are Pyrotechnics / Fireworks Offences?
This offence involves possessing or using an article whose main purpose is the emission of a flare, smoke, or visible gas, including:
Distress flares
Smoke flares
Smoke bombs
It applies at any time during the period of a designated sporting event, including:
Being in any area of a designated sports ground from which the event may be directly viewed.
Entering or attempting to enter a designated sports ground with such an article.
Key Points:
Igniting, holding, or possessing a pyrotechnic device (even unlit) at or near the ground is an offence.
Throwing an ignited firework into a public road is also an offence.
Court and Sentencing Information
Possession or use: Magistrates’ Court, maximum penalty Level 3 Fine or 3 months’ imprisonment.
Throwing into a road: Maximum penalty Level 5 Fine.
